While I do agree with you, Michael, I do sense that younger persons – those who have grown up with Google and social media – might not be as concerned by the privacy policy changes. I have noted that Google’s new policy is just one of a long line of changes occurring across the online space (think also Facebook) that is “asking” us to change our attitude towards privacy and information sharing. And admittedly, in a world that is getting smaller and more interconnected, our perception of self, privacy, security, etc, might require some adjustment…

However, personally, I am uncomfortable with the fact that entities, like Google, benefit financially from demanding that I be less private. So in the back of my mind, I have to wonder whether the policy changes are really being done to improve the company’s ability to personalise user results, or more so for financial gain…

I think what remains clearly of concern is simply that for as long as someone else is holding your personal information, that is going to be the odd chance that information may spill. In short only oneself can guarantee the security of one’s personal information. This “ultra opersonalisation” is going a step further.
