Awareness, Awareness, Awareness!!!!

We live in a region that believes that if the US catches a cold that we will catch it in the region but yet we seem oblivious to the fact that Cyber Security threats can harm our kids and our economies. The Caribbean Cyber Security Center was established in response to improve awareness of the threats and to help Caribbean public and private sector organizations become more aware of the people, policies, processes and technology aspects of Cyber Security.

These are a few of the myths that we need to dispel
• Hackers are not really interested in the Caribbean
• Cyber Crime is a problem for developed countries only
• We don’t have anything hackers want
• Our only problems are viruses

Our IT Security Awareness program is all encompassing and has elements for the schools, Parents, Universities and Corporate.

Awareness is the first step in ensuring that we make the necessary steps to protect our kids, businesses, economies and region.

I am thinking that the population in general (Not just businesses) need to be sensitised where information security is concerned. Do you think that schools should play a role in this? There seems to be the constant feeling that it wont happen to me or it only happens on TV or no one is interested in my data.
