Often we are caught up the rat-race of meeting day-to-day objectives, such that, attending to matters of innovation appear like the task of changing a car-wheel while the car is moving.

In matters of this nature, I always hold the opinion that having a member of the senior leadership team in an organisation, dedicated to this is not money wasted.

I notice mention has made of the usefulness of a cross-functional team. The problem I see that arises is that more often than not, especially in matters of this nature, that are strategic (and not operational) the parties involved would come with varied interests. This affects the focus and, in the long run, the effectiveness of the team.

I tend to value a case where there is a senior member of staff, who then can co-ordinate and lead the various processes.
