SUMMARY:Call for proposals: 2013 FRIDA Grants
DESCRIPTION:The FRIDA Program provides financial support for projects in the form of “small grants.” This means that each project is allocated a small sum\, which allows their funding to be complemented by other sources; that these grants are not repayable (no money or interest must be paid back); that their allocation is decided through a competitive process in which a public invitation is made for the presentation of proposals\, and these proposals are later evaluated and the best are awarded the grants. \nThe amount awarded to these projects will be up to US$ 15\,000; the maximum term for their completion will be twelve months. \nThe call closes on September 30\, 2013\nFor more details go to the FRIDA website

SUMMARY:UNESCO Consultative Meeting on FOSS\, OS and OD
DESCRIPTION:UNESCO has commissioned a study on the status of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS)\, Open Data (OS) and Open Standards (OS) in the Caribbean. Based on the findings of the study\, the organisation will consider interventions and support it can offer to individual countries\, and/or to the region as a whole\, to promote the adoption and use of FOSS\, OD and OS\,  in alignment with its Information for All Programme (IFAP). \nThe findings of the study\, which have been drawn from desk research\, an online survey\, and in-market meetings in select countries\, will be summarized in a report that should be reviewed by stakeholders. In addition to disseminating the report electronically\, UNESCO will be hosting two 2-day sessions\, 18—19 July in Jamaica\, and 25—26 July in Saint Lucia\, to allow in-depth examination of the study findings\, and to secure support for proposed follow-op activities.
