SUMMARY:Digital Transformation and Innovation School in the Caribbean
DESCRIPTION:August 12\, 2024 – August 15\, 2024\nTime: 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM (UTC -4) \nLocation: CTU Headquarters\, Mary St\, St Clair\, Port-of-Spain\, Trinidad and Tobago \nMode: In-person participation \nLanguage: English [no interpretation service] \nCertificates: Certificates will be awarded to those who participate in at least two-thirds of the activities. \n  \nAbout the School of Digital Transformation and Innovation \nThe School of Digital Transformation and Innovation in Latin America and the Caribbean serves as a dynamic capacity building programme for policymakers. Through lectures\, panel discussions\, case studies and peer learning\, it delivers pertinent\, up-to-date content on analytical skills\, transformation trends and best practices. Formerly known as “The Digital Transformation and Innovation Summer School\,” the programme has been collaboratively organised by prominent entities\, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC)\, CAF – The Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean\, Cetic.br (Regional Center of Studies for the Development of the Information Society – a Department of NIC.br)\, the Datasphere Initiative Foundation\, and the Technical Internet Community – represented by LACNIC\, ICANN\, ISOC\, LACTLD\, LAC-IX\, LACNOG\, and Red CLARA. \nWith eight editions completed to date\, the School has evolved into a significant cooperation platform. It engages policymakers\, international experts\, and professionals from diverse sectors in an intersectoral and multistakeholder dialogue on the challenges and opportunities of digital transformation and innovation in Latin America and the Caribbean. That being said\, the School is yet to take place in the Caribbean. \n  \nWhy is a Caribbean version of the School of Digital Transformation and Innovation needed? \nIn today’s interconnected world\, the imperative for socioeconomic development through digital transformation is evident. The School recognises the specific challenges and opportunities faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Caribbean\, compounded by the convergence of debt\, cost-of-living and climate crises. \nIn addressing these challenges\, the School of Digital Transformation and Innovation in the Caribbean aims to provide a tailored approach\, fostering innovation in the region. SIDS grapple with issues such as inadequate telecommunications infrastructure\, susceptibility to natural disasters\, financial constraints\, and skill gaps. Bridging these gaps is crucial to successful digital transformation\, ensuring that the Caribbean can navigate the complexities of emerging technologies and drive economic growth. A key success factor of a Caribbean version of the School would be critical analyses of global digital transformation and innovation trends and the implications of the same for sustainable Caribbean development. \nMoreover\, strategic adaptability is essential for entities within SIDS to adjust strategies promptly in response to external changes. Decision-makers must possess the agility to make quick decisions and reallocate resources based on continuous monitoring and analysis of the global digital ecosystem. This proactive approach ensures that digital transformation and innovation strategies remain pertinent and aligned with evolving circumstances. \nThe School for Digital Transformation and Innovation in the Caribbean as a four-day event\, with each day focusing on a distinct strategic thrust. One or more organising partners will be assigned responsibility for each daily segment. The event will culminate in a closing ceremony\, during which participants who successfully complete each day’s activities will receive a certificate of participation issued by the organising partners. \n  \nOrganising Partners \nCTU: The Caribbean Telecommunications Union \nECLAC: The United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean \nCAF: Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean. \nCETIC.BR: Centro Regional de Estudos para o Desenvolvimento da Sociedade da Informação \nInternet Technical Community: LACNIC\, ICANN\, Internet Society\, LACTLD\, LAC-IX\, LACNOG\, Red CLARA. \nContributing Organisations \nUWI: The University of the West Indies – Caribbean ICT Research Programme (CIRP) and Caribbean Open Institute \n  \nObjectives \nThe main objectives of the School include: \nKnowledge Enhancement: To provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of digital transformation\, including its technologies\, impact\, and potential in the Caribbean context. \nImproved Policy Development: To facilitate discussions on policy frameworks that support digital transformation\, ensuring alignment with regional and international strategies. \nInnovative Solutions: To encourage the development of innovative strategies to tackle digital challenges and leverage opportunities within SIDS. \nCollaborative Networking: To facilitate networking and collaboration among policymakers\, stakeholders\, and technology experts to promote a shared vision and coordinated efforts towards digital advancement. \nCapacity Building: To strengthen the skills and capabilities of participants to effectively engage with emerging technologies and adapt to the dynamic digital landscape. \n  \nTarget Audience \nThe School targets mid-to-senior level policymakers (at least seven years of experience) from ICT\, Finance\, Trade\, Planning & Economy\, and Legal Affairs ministries; regulators; chambers of commerce; industry stakeholders; academics; and representatives from international organisations involved in formulating or shaping public policy and strategies related to digital transformation and innovation within the Caribbean region. Maximum seating capacity is thirty six (36). A select number of participants will be granted a fellowship to attend. \n  \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Digital Leadership in the Caribbean
DESCRIPTION:Venue: Trinidad and Tobago \nIntroduction \nThe Caribbean region is continuing to show meaningful progress in the ways in which governments conduct business and provide public services\, through the adoption of digital transformation strategies. According to the 2022 United Nations E-Government Development Index (EGDI)\, all member states of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) surveyed\, except Haiti\, placed in the “High” development group1. Nevertheless\, citizen impatience with the pace of digital reforms and their ongoing preference for accessing public services through non-digital channels continue to be formidable challenges\, requiring more ambitious and nuanced digital transformation agendas. To deliver on these new agendas\, regional knowledge exchanges on digital policy development\, that leverage the successes and insights gained from each country’s journey\, are critical. \nThe Ministry of Digital Transformation in Trinidad and Tobago (MDT)\, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago\, in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU)\, wishes to create an enabling space for the region’s most senior policymakers with portfolio responsibility for digitalisation\, in which they can address collaboratively some of the most common impediments faced in the digital transformation of the state. By contributing\, from their unique set of competencies\, knowledge and professional experiences\, these executives will learn from each other and enhance the knowledge base for Caribbean digital policy and practice. \n  \nWorkshop Objectives \nThe Executive Sessions will seek to: \n\nFacilitate a comprehensive understanding among executives of cross-border challenges and opportunities to advance digital transformation in the Caribbean;\nSupport strategy development for confronting and addressing impediments to public sector innovation at the regional\, national and organisational level; and\nChart joint action among the Ministers\, with support from the IDB and CTU\, in the areas of research and innovation to advance the digital agenda.\n\n  \nWorkshop Format \nThe Executive Sessions will provide six (6) substantive sessions focusing on practical guidance on the most salient topics for Caribbean digitalisation such as (i) e-Identity and interoperability platforms; (ii) cybersecurity for critical infrastructure; and (iii) cross-border data governance. The Executive Sessions will feature in- person presentations by renowned digital thought leaders and offer a helpdesk setting where questions can be asked and answered confidentially2. Moreover\, they will foster an esprit de corps among the policymakers by facilitating peer exchanges on their digital policy successes that reflect the unique sensitivities\, strengths and institutional settings that typify the Caribbean experience. Policy makers will also have facilities available for technical advice in real-time\, by having their designated technical advisor(s) attending the sessions virtually. An open session with specially invited guests representing the region’s private sector and civil society will also allow policymakers to gain perspective on the imperatives of championing a more engaged and trusting digital citizenry. \n  \n1 See Publication: https://publicadministration.un.org/egovkb/en-us/Reports/UN-E-Government-Survey-2022 \n2 Chatham House Rules will be in effect for all closed sessions. \n  \nVIEW AGENDA

SUMMARY:Americas Regional Radiocommunication Seminar and Spectrum Management Task Force Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The ITU Radiocommunication Bureau intends to perform a yearly cycle of Regional Radiocommunication Seminars\, to be held on the different regions worldwide\, which will deal with the use of the radio-frequency spectrum and the satellite orbits\, and\, in particular\, with the application of the provisions of the ITU Radio Regulations. The main advantages of the regional seminars are: \n\nWithin each region\, more officials from national frequency management organizations can participate\, and also more participants from other radiocommunication sector stakeholders;\nSeminar’s Agenda can be focused on pertinent regional situations and problematic;\nA closer dialogue can be established among participants and they can be more easily trained in the latest ICT tools for frequency management developed by ITU\, and better apply for their particular problematic;\nITU Staff would be in a position to better understand local frequency management problems and\, therefore\, provide more appropriate assistance.\n\nRegistration for this event will be carried out exclusively online\, through the respective designated focal point (DFP). Registration will begin on 19 May 2014. Advance registration is strongly advised for all participants; unannounced participants will face further delays at the on-site registration desks. \nmore

SUMMARY:Trinidad & Tobago – Security Convergence: Principles of Information Security and Digital Forensics
DESCRIPTION:Cross-training equates to improved cost-control and productivity. \nA cross-trained organization is more cohesive\, with different divisions pursuing similar goals. All personnel working together will reduce an organization’s overall risk profile and streamline some redundant security processes. A cross training plan that would help physical security professionals understand what information security threats are and how to spot them\, with some technical training would go a long way towards team building and improved skill sets. \nKeep pace updating your skills with new training. \nIn addition to learning information security and networking principles\, students will be introduced to digital forensics investigations and learn the “right-way” to collect digital evidence that could be used internally or in civil/criminal litigation. \nAs a primer for getting started in computer forensics\, this course covers basic principles of digital forensics and cloud computing forensics. This is the core pre-requsiste for the “Advanced Computer Forensic Investigation” three day “hands-on” course. \nTopics Include: \n\nInformation Security Principles\nCryptography\nPublic Key Infrastructure\nNetworking Principles\nNetwork Security\nApplication Security\nDigital Forensics – Key Technical Concepts\nIntroduction to “Cloud Computing” Forensics
