SUMMARY:Jamaica’s Path to Universal Legal Identity in the Digital Age
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday April 17th 2024 the SlashRoots Foundation will be hosting the second forum in our Digital Democracy Series titled ‘Jamaica’s Path to Universal Legal Identity in the Digital Age’. \nThe GOJ is in the process of finalizing NIDS regulations in preparation to launch an expanded pilot as it moves towards national rollout. Eventually\, the national ID will be opened up to actors across the Jamaican landscape for general use and integration within digital services. \nIn the session titled ‘Jamaica’s Path to Universal Legal Identity in the Digital Age’\, we’ll reflect on the underlying problems Jamaica seeks to address with NIDS\, discuss some of the difficult trade-offs that can emerge during the rollout of digital IDs\, and ask how we might achieve universal access to trusted legal identification in Jamaica. \nYou are invited to join us as we explore issues of implementation\, adoption\, citizenship\, privacy\, and governance with local and international experts. \n  \nMORE

SUMMARY:Registration: Internet Society Fundamentals for Chapters
DESCRIPTION:Internet Society members are vital to carrying our message of an open\, globally-connected\, and secure Internet for all. \nBecause members bring such great value\, experience\, and knowledge to our organization\, we’ve designed a new training program just for them: The Internet Society Fundamentals program. The program was inspired by the great experience we had with 2020 Chapter training program as well as feedback on specific needs\, requirements\, challenges and the COVID-19 context. \nInternet Society Fundamentals aims to develop new community leaders equipped to tell data-driven stories about the Internet Society’s key projects. This will equip members to work with their Chapters to create local awareness\, extending the reach of our work for an Internet as a force for good. \n  \nAbout the program\nIn its first year\, the program consists of two full weeks of webinars linked to Internet Society projects. Sessions will be held from 12-23 April\, 2021. \nDuring each webinar\, we will cover the project’s main concepts with a focus on narrative and strategies to approach multiple audiences. In this way\, Chapter members can feel empowered to raise awareness through concrete local initiatives that support the development and positioning of the Chapter. \nIn 2021\, Internet Society Fundamentals is open to all Chapter Members* whose Chapters are subscribed to the program. Members who are eligible to participate will receive the registration details by email. Sessions are in English\, Spanish and French\, and will be held in four time zones. In order to get a Certificate of Completion\, each participant must perform a local awareness initiative based on the content and the information shared during the webinars. Initiatives must be arranged locally with Chapter coordinators assigned to the program. \n  \n… more

SUMMARY:CMIP "Global Tech Trends" Webinar
DESCRIPTION:The Caribbean Mobile Innovation Project\, coordinated by the University of the West Indies (UWI)\, cordially invites you to the Caribbean Mobile Innovation Project’s (CMIP) “Global Tech Trends” Webinar on Thursday\, February 26\, 2015 from 1:30 to 2:30 pm EST. The speaker will be Mr. Soji Ojugbele\, Product Specialist with Android Wear at Google Inc. Soji has been involved with wearables for 2 years now\, starting with the launch of Google Glass. He now works on the Android Wear team at Google\, evangelizing the products\, providing useful demonstrations and supporting the platform. \nThe CMIP is an integral part of the Entrepreneurship Program for Innovation in the Caribbean (EPIC )\, a US $20M program funded by the Government of Canada and executed by infoDev/World Bank. The CMIP is thrilled to welcome Soji as this webinar falls in line with its mandate to strengthen the Caribbean mobile innovation ecosystem. \nAs stakeholders in this ecosystem\, we should all be keenly aware of tech trends representing intelligence on the edge\, to ensure we capacitate ourselves to allow innovation to flourish. Soji’s webinar will aid in keeping you at the forefront of today’s paradigm of innovative technology trends. \nA major aspect of strengthening the Caribbean mobile innovation ecosystem is ensuring all players have a pulse of the nature of activity taking place in the region. This will reduce the probability of duplication of efforts and will allow for the strengthening of connections between the members of the ecosystem\, fostering greater sustainability of the community. To this end\, the webinar is being staged to both share knowledge critical to those who are committed to remaining on the edge of innovation and bring together key players to foster the growth of the ecosystem. A key tool is being developed by the CMIP to map the ecosystem. \nThe main objective for the development of this tool is to provide crowd-sourced information to foster interaction and development of the mobile innovation ecosystem\, especially among CARICOM members. The map will represent an interactive data visualization of the full universe of Caribbean mobile innovation stakeholders\, and as such will undoubtedly become a useful reference. \n  \nThe agenda for the Feb 26\, 2015 Global Tech Trends webinar is as follows: \n1:30 – 1:35 pm  –  Introduction and putting the Webinar in context – Ayanna Samuels \n1:35 – 2:05 pm  –  Today’s Global Tech Trends                                       – Soji Ojugbele \n2:05 – 2:20 pm  –  Wrap up and Forward Charge/Next Steps             – Angelique Mannella \n2:20 – 2:30 pm  –  Questions \n  \nWe’d be delighted if you would join us to help to move the Caribbean mobile innovation space forward. Please register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/cmip-global-tech-trends-webinar-tickets-15765656503 by Tue Feb 24\, 2015. The URL for the webinar will be shared in reminder notifications.
