An update of the most downloaded free apps for the Apple iPhone in the Caribbean as at November 2017.

It has been well over a year since we updated our findings of most downloaded free software applications (apps) for the Apple iPhone in the Caribbean. These apps would have been downloaded from Apple’s App Store, and the data collected was drawn from a number of sources, such as iOSappstats and App Annie, as at 30 November 2017.

However, unlike to previous years, when we just highlighted the top five apps averaged across the region, this time, we are presenting the top five apps in each Caribbean country for which data is readily available. Thereafter we briefly discuss the results.

From the results, it is readily evident that across the Caribbean, instant messaging apps, and specifically WhatsApp followed by Facebook Messenger, are the most frequently downloaded. Social media apps are also popular, particularly Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. Surprisingly, Twitter is not among the top five in any of the countries examined.

Finally, it is interesting to note the prevalence of YouTube on the lists across the region, which also suggests the extent to which individuals are comfortable viewing videos on their smartphones.

Exhibit 1: Top 5 apps in select Caribbean countries, as of 30 November 2017
