Although it has a population of around 55,000, this two-island state is considered to be one of the more progressive, in relation to telecoms and ICT.<\/p>\n<p>From all reports, the country has a fairly well-developed telecoms space, having liberalised its industry over 15 years ago, and has been able to maintain a multiplayer environment. More importantly, it has been actively seeking to leverage ICT and to foster innovation, as was discussed in our <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2ycDH1o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">conversation with Dr Ricardo Neil<\/a>, of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College in Saint Kitts.<\/p>\n<p>From a policy perspective, the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis was reportedly the first in the Caribbean region to get an Autonomous System Number (ASN) for its computer networks. An ASN is used to identify a computer network on the global Internet, and is an important milestone towards achieving network independence (Source:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/oecsbusinessfocus.com\/st-kitts-and-nevis-government-first-to-get-unique-internet-identity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">OECS Business Focus<\/a>).
