At one time or another, we all get brilliant ideas for a business, or a solution to a problem; but very few of us actually have the interest, or the passion, to pursue it. The situation can be even more daunting if you would have to work in a field in which you have little or no expertise. Linda Dias, the Chief Architect for the Government of Montserrat, recently launched a booking entertainment software application, Bodio. She shares her story, and why, as someone who is not a software developer and not in the creative arts, she has taken on this venture.

What does it take to more from an idea to a tangible output? From time to time, and based on a problem either we personally, or those around us, are experiencing, a possible solution might come to us. We might even share our ‘brilliant’ idea with family and friends, but frequently, we talk ourselves out of taking action, and our idea just ends up dying a natural death.

For the very few who decide to act on that inspiration, a successful outcome is not guaranteed. For example, one might not know enough about the field; the proposed solution is too difficult (or expensive) to execute; or consumers might not gravitate to the proposed solution, to name a few. These reasons – and more – are some of the unspoken truths about successful entrepreneurship and innovation. As much as it takes hard work, there are still a broad range of subtle elements that contribute to final outcome.

It is thus rare when someone decides to take the plunge and develop a solution for a field in which they are not proficient, either professionally or as a hobby. Meet Linda Dias.

Linda is the Chief Architect for the Government of Monserrat. She is an accomplished architect, who relatively recently pursued advance studies in the field, and has been quoted in regional newspapers on the subject. However, Linda is also the Founder of Bodio, a booking entertainment software application, which was launched earlier this year.

So in our discussion with Linda, and in addition to learning more about Bodio, we wanted to understand what made her tick, and specifically, what drove her to create an software application. We thus covered a lot of ground during our conversation with her, including the following areas:

  1. What Bodio is, and what drove Linda to create it
  2. Who the users of Bodio are
  3. The response to Bodio to date
  4. Whether there is a revenue generation model that underpins, or is being considered for Bodio, and whether it is already generating revenue
  5. Linda’s journey into tech entrepreneurship
  6. Why, as an architect, Linda is building software applications
  7. What it is like to be an entrepreneur in Montserrat, and Linda’s thoughts about the country’s start-up environment/culture
  8. How Linda would describe herself as a manager/team lead, especially in an area in which she is not particularly versed – tech
  9. One of the biggest lesson Linda has had to learn in trying to get Bodio off the ground
  10. Milestones that have been set for Bodio over the next year or so, and what’s next for Linda.
