UNESCO Consultative Meeting on FOSS, OS and OD

UNESCO has commissioned a study on the status of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), Open Data (OS) and Open Standards (OS) in the Caribbean. Based on the findings of the study, the organisation will consider interventions and support it can offer to individual countries, and/or to the region as a whole, to promote the adoption and use of FOSS, OD and OS,  in alignment with its Information for All Programme (IFAP).

The findings of the study, which have been drawn from desk research, an online survey, and in-market meetings in select countries, will be summarized in a report that should be reviewed by stakeholders. In addition to disseminating the report electronically, UNESCO will be hosting two 2-day sessions, 18—19 July in Jamaica, and 25—26 July in Saint Lucia, to allow in-depth examination of the study findings, and to secure support for proposed follow-op activities.
