In this Community Chat, and with members of the Caribbean tech community, Nerissa Golden and Alvin Augustin, plus podcast host, Michele Marius, the panel discusses:  why content creation is key to unlocking the Caribbean digital economy; and the regulatory challenges that the Internet of Things poses in the Caribbean.

This episode is also available in Apple iTunes and on Stitcher!

As we continue to have our Community Chats, we are eager to broaden the topics that are discussed, and accordingly, the guests who are featured. On this episode, we have a creative and a regulator: a seemingly odd couple, who facilitated an eye-opening discussion:

Nerissa Golden

  • Nerissa Golden is the CEO of Goldenmedia, Managing Editor of Discover Montserrat and the Founder of Maverick Endeavours, and is based in Montserrat. She has been especially keen for Caribbean citizens to tell their stories, and that our history and culture, among other things, are fertile ground for us in the region to create unique content. She thus was of the view that content creation is key to unlocking the Caribbean digital economy, but unfortunately we, in the region, have not been capitalising on the opportunity.
  • Alvin Augustin is an Engineer and the Spectrum Officer the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL), which is headquartered in Saint Lucia. With the growing take-up of smart devices, big data, along with machine-to machine communication, which all point to the Internet of Things beginning to get a foothold in the Caribbean, Alvin is concerned that we really have not begun to grapple with the regulatory challenges that the Internet of Things poses.
