Although off the shelf, generic digital products can help a business solve a problem, frequently, they can only help to a point. In this conversation with Joshua Kissoon, we discuss eBusiness, the suite of business solutions that his firm, Techlify, has created. We also discuss Joshua’s entrepreneurial journey to date, how Techlify has evolved over the years, and what might be in store for the company in the coming years.

At the best of times, being an entrepreneur is fraught with uncertainty. Will there be enough money to cover all of the expenses? How do I manage the team and all of the responsibilities as a leader? How and what do I delegate? Will we be able to live up to vision that I have? These are just a few of the questions that tend to plague entrepreneurs, and to a considerable degree, successfully resolving those issues are almost as, or perhaps even more, important than the actual venture itself, as ultimately, they can make or break the business.

It is light of this delicate dance that entrepreneurs have to do, we are always excited when we have an opportunity to pull back the veil and learn more about the inner workings of a Caribbean tech business. In this episode of the ICT Pulse Podcast, we are spending time in Guyana with the company, Techlify Inc and its Founder, Joshua Kissoon.

Introducing our guest

Joshua Kissoon

Joshua Kissoon strikes you as the typical techie: quiet, smart, yet unassuming. You might easily overlook him, but in less than 18 months he and his team at Techlify Inc. have created the award winning product, eBusiness. Earlier this year, the software platform and the company were recognised by BizX at its 2020 Awards as the Best Business Software or App and the Best IT Organisation, respectively.

Based in Guyana and established in 2014, Techlify Inc. is software engineering company, which specialties include Android and iOS applications development, web and software development, and Laravel, Angular and PHP frameworks. The operation is staffed by a growing team based in Guyana and India, who Joshua acknowledges, have been integral to the company’s success.

Joshua, himself, has had an interesting entrepreneurship journey, which started in Guyana, but took him to India and back.  However, as an entrepreneur, and especially a young entrepreneur, there were a few bumps along the way, along with a whole host of fears and insecurities that had to be conquered, which Joshua discusses candidly. By the end of our conversation with Joshua, you get a sense of how Techlify has evolved over the years, and the big, hairy, audacious goal he and his team have set for the company in the coming years.

However, some of the specific questions posed during our conversation included the following:

  1. What is Techlify?
  2. What is eBusiness?
  3. How you ended up starting Techlify?
  4. Techlify is being recognized for being innovative. What drives that innovation? Is there a particular approach or methodology that you are applying?
  5. What is the size of the team you are leading?
  6. What has been the biggest lesson you both have had to learn in running Techlify?
  7. How would you describe yourself as a manager, as the leader of your organization?
  8. What is the best piece of advice you would give to a young tech start-up?

We would love to hear from you!
